| Inside the church/clinic |
Medic Samaritan put together a group of medical personnel consisting of Residents, PAs, Flight Nurses, Flight Medics, Paramedics, etc and took them to the rural countryside of Haiti to provide medical care to the community. However, this was much more than a medical mission trip. We witnessed miracle after miracle on a daily basis. I felt as though we had stepped back into the New Testament and were walking with the Great Physician! His presence was clearly visible among the community of Haiti. We providedmedicine, but we were the ones that were healed. My faith is perfecting! Thank you for all your support and prayers. Not only were there miracles among the Haitians, but also throughout our team. Jon and Tony did an awesome job leading and giving all the glory to God. Praying was just part of the breathing. If they were talking, they were praying! The biggest miracle was the transformation I saw in my friend Lisa! She went from crying and wanting to go home to planning her next trip back. I truly believe that God put Lisa and I together for a special reason on this trip!
Belloc is a community about 20-30 minutes away from Camatin. We walked around passing out shoes, praying, providing some medicine and some food. It was a low key day and gave us an opportunity to have a "taste" of Haiti.
Our next day of business was in Tiapo. This was a 3 hour hike to the top of a mountain where we had a medical clinic. The hike was litterally uphill both ways but it wasn't bad at all. The weather was beautiful and we made plenty of stops along the way. I was amazed at how many followers we picked up along the way also. At one point I looked back and our team had multiplied by about seven times. Mothers, babies, kids... everywhere. As we approached the hill and the church came into view, we began to hear about 300 Haitians sing praise songs in creole. It was the most humbling and beautiful sound I had ever heard. When Tony said they were singing because of us... I just broke down. As we set up the clinic and got to our assigned stations (mine being triage), we quickly began to work. Time was limited and we needed to work quickly. After about an hour, God wispered to me to not get tunnel visioned and to look around. I then noticed a mom holding her baby who I thought was asleep like all the other babies. This one was different though. This baby cold, diaphoretic, gray, and unresponsive. I quickly told Lisa to help find a spot for her and she brought mom and baby to our resident Tiffany. The next thing I knew Tiff was in tears because she couldn't help this very sick child. Tony came over and started praying for a miracle. As he said amen, the child woke up, started crying, and turned the right color. Tiffany was broken the rest of the trip... so was everyone else.
